The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu will on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, flag off the Measles-Rubella and Routine Immunisation Campaign across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the week-long campaign will run until Wednesday, February 5, 2026, covering all Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos.

The integrated campaign aligns with national and global immunisation targets.

It is designed to protect children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Health officials say measles remains a major cause of childhood illness.

They also warn that rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital defects.

Speaking on the campaign, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, described routine immunisation as a proven public health intervention.

He noted that the exercise targets diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, and cervical cancer.

Dr Mustafa said the vaccines are safe, effective, and provided free of charge.

He stressed that the state is determined to reach every eligible child and adolescent.

The Permanent Secretary explained that sustained immunisation reduces child mortality and boosts school attendance.

He added that it also supports long-term social and economic development.

Dr Mustafa urged parents, guardians, community leaders, and school authorities to support the campaign.

He encouraged them to ensure that eligible children receive their vaccinations.

The campaign will be implemented with support from development partners.

These include the Federal Ministry of Health, NPHCDA, WHO, and UNICEF.
