The Lagos State Government has installed solar power systems in major tourism facilities in Badagry to improve visitor experience and reduce reliance on the national grid.

Eko Hot News reports that the intervention was carried out through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture as part of broader efforts to boost tourism development in the historic town.

A monitoring team from the Ministry inspected the installations.

The inspection was led by the Director of the Monuments Management Department, Mr Ibrahim Ladejobi.

Ladejobi represented the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka.

According to the Commissioner, the project aims to enhance comfort and service delivery for tourists.

She said an improved power supply would encourage increased patronage and create seamless experiences for visitors.

Facilities that benefited from the solar installations include the Badagry Heritage Museum.

Others are the Vlekete Slave Market and the Tourist Information Centre in Badagry.

The Commissioner explained that the solar systems were installed under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

She noted that the collaboration ensured quality delivery, durability, and long-term sustainability.

Mrs Benson-Awoyinka said the intervention became necessary due to persistent power supply challenges.

She explained that erratic electricity had negatively affected operations at key tourism sites.

According to her, complaints from tourists over power outages prompted the search for alternative energy solutions.

The solar project is expected to guarantee uninterrupted services at the facilities.
