Lagos State Health District V has delivered a comprehensive School Health Programme in five public primary schools, reinforcing the Sanwo-Olu administration’s drive to strengthen preventive healthcare, promote quality education, and boost human capital development across the state.
Eko Hot News reportsthat the programme, led by the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, Dr Oladapo Asiyanbi, was implemented across selected schools, including Christ the King Primary School, Ajeromi-Ifelodun; 5th Avenue Nursery and Primary School, Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin; St. Michael Nursery and Primary School, Ojo; and Gbenopo Primary School, Ajara-Topa, Badagry.

The initiative aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Lagos State Government, particularly the pillars of Health and Environment, Education and Technology, and Social Inclusion, with strong emphasis on early childhood care and development.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Medical Services and Disease Control, Dr Ahmad Amina Bello, explained that the programme was designed to educate pupils on cleanliness, personal safety, and emotional well-being through age-appropriate and engaging activities.

Dr Ahmad described the initiative as a vital intervention that supports the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision of building a healthier, more productive population by delivering essential healthcare services directly to primary schools.
Key components of the programme included health education sessions, basic medical screening to assess general wellbeing and identify conditions such as poor eyesight, dental checks with tooth examinations and extractions where necessary, deworming exercises, and practical demonstrations on handwashing and personal hygiene.

The programme recorded enthusiastic participation from pupils, teachers, and head teachers, with pupils gaining practical knowledge on healthy habits to practise at school and at home, including proper dental care and personal hygiene.
Lagos State Health District V reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining and expanding School Health Programmes across more schools within the district to ensure wider access to preventive healthcare services.
