The Lagos State Government has disbursed financial support to another 250 indigent residents under the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme, reinforcing its commitment to social welfare and inclusive governance.
Eko Hot News reports that the cheques were presented at a ceremony held at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Alausa, Ikeja, as part of ongoing efforts to support vulnerable Lagosians.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr Afolabi Tajudeen, said the initiative is designed to uplift indigent residents and help them feel the real dividends of democracy.
He conveyed the goodwill of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, stressing that the administration remains committed to improving the standard of living of vulnerable groups across the state.
Dr Afolabi disclosed that 400 beneficiaries received similar financial support the previous week, with an additional 250 benefitting at the current presentation, underscoring the continuity of the programme.
He advised beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for productive ventures that can generate long-term benefits, warning against spending the assistance on non-essential items.
The Special Adviser also encouraged beneficiaries to enrol in the Ilera-Eko Health Insurance Scheme, describing it as part of the state government’s drive to provide affordable and accessible healthcare for all residents.
Prior to the cheque presentation, beneficiaries were sensitised on key government policies and programmes aimed at strengthening civic awareness and public participation in governance.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore urged beneficiaries to promptly deposit their cheques to ensure timely access to the financial aid.
He noted that the support is meant to ease immediate financial challenges and promote economic stability among beneficiaries.
The Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme continues to serve as a critical social intervention, reflecting the Lagos State Government’s focus on inclusive growth and citizen-centred development.
