The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has sought stronger collaboration with the Lagos State Physical Planning Enforcement agencies to safeguard high-tension power corridors and prevent dangerous encroachment across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the TCN Lagos Region team to the Lagos State Physical Planning Enforcement agencies (LASPEMA).
Dr Olumide reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to effective land-use management, stressing that LASPEMA remains ready to work with stakeholders to preserve designated open spaces and promote sustainable urban development.

He noted that protecting power infrastructure corridors aligns with the state’s broader vision for orderly development, public safety, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking during the visit, the General Manager of TCN, Lagos Region, Engr. Mojeed Akintola said the engagement was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration to safeguard transmission assets, pylons, setbacks, and rights-of-way across Lagos.

Engr. Akintola warned that encroachment on high-tension corridors poses serious risks to national power infrastructure and human lives, calling for coordinated enforcement to address the growing challenge.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Oluwole Sotire described the collaboration as a critical step towards reclaiming sensitive high-tension corridors across the state.
He pledged full administrative support and emphasised the need for collective action to restore order and prevent further encroachment.

Earlier, the General Manager of LASISMA, Tpl. Oso outlined the agency’s mandate to regulate informal and incidental open spaces and prevent their misuse.
He stressed the urgency of preventing activities within high-tension corridors to safeguard lives, protect infrastructure, and enhance the visual appeal of Lagos.

The meeting ended with a mutual agreement on sustained collaboration towards a safer, well-planned, and resilient urban environment, with directors from relevant agencies and TCN officials in attendance.
