The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed a residential estate at No. 96B, Ladipo Omotesho Street, Lekki Phase I, over persistent environmental nuisance and obstruction of statutory duties.

Eko Hot News reports that the enforcement action was carried out following repeated complaints against the estate and several notices earlier served by the agency.

Speaking on the exercise, the General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, said the estate was found culpable of indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater and poor sewage management practices.

He disclosed that residents and facility managers also deliberately obstructed LSWMO officers from carrying out routine inspections and compliance monitoring.

According to Engr. Afolabi, previous engagements and warnings issued to the estate management were ignored, leaving the agency with no option but to enforce compliance.

He noted that the violations posed serious health and environmental risks to the surrounding community, necessitating decisive action.

The General Manager explained that the sealing-off was carried out strictly in line with Lagos State environmental laws and LSWMO’s mandate to safeguard public health.

He stressed that the estate would remain sealed until all identified infractions are fully corrected and verified by the Office.

Condemning the obstruction of enforcement officers, Engr. Afolabi warned residents and organisations against harassing or interfering with authorised officers in the discharge of their duties.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public health and promoting sustainable wastewater management across the state.

Engr. Afolabi urged residents to adopt proper wastewater disposal and hygiene practices, warning that environmental nuisance would attract sanctions and possible prosecution.
