World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is currently receiving medical care at a Lagos hospital following a fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives.

Eko Hot Newsreports that the Deputy Head of Mission of the British High Commission in Nigeria, Mr Simon Field, led a high-level visit to the boxer on Tuesday, alongside Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, to assess his condition and offer support.

The visit followed reports confirming that Joshua was involved in a crash on Monday, December 29, 2025, when the vehicle conveying him and others collided with a stationary truck near the Makun axis of the expressway in Ogun State.

Two occupants of the vehicle reportedly lost their lives at the scene, while Joshua and another passenger sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical facility in Lagos for treatment.

Medical sources confirmed that Anthony Joshua is in stable condition and responding well to treatment, with doctors stating that he does not require emergency surgical intervention at this time.

Officials from the Lagos and Ogun State governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. They assured the public that all necessary support is being provided to those affected by the tragic incident.

The British High Commission was formally notified of the accident and has remained in close contact with Nigerian authorities and medical personnel overseeing the boxer’s recovery.
