The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), has empowered about 100 elderly persons with disabilities.
Eko Hot News reports that the intervention was carried out under LASODA’s annual programme tagged Cash Support and Medical Outreach to Elderly Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Caregivers, aimed at promoting inclusion and social protection in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
The programme featured the disbursement of financial support alongside free medical services to beneficiaries drawn from different parts of Lagos State, providing relief and support during the festive season.
Speaking at the event held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the LASODA premises, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to dignity, inclusion, and welfare for vulnerable groups.

Mrs Oyetunde-Lawal explained that the cash support is designed to help elderly persons with disabilities meet personal needs, access healthcare, improve mobility, and, in some cases, support small-scale livelihood activities.
She noted that LASODA has consistently implemented impactful programmes that enhance independence, dignity, and community participation for persons with disabilities across the state.
Addressing caregivers, the LASODA boss acknowledged concerns about the future care of children with disabilities, assuring them of continued government support while encouraging perseverance and sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders.
She reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, stressing that inclusion remains central to LASODA’s mission of building a society where everyone can live with dignity and purpose.
Several beneficiaries expressed joy and gratitude to the Lagos State Government and LASODA, describing the intervention as timely and impactful, especially during the yuletide period.

The empowerment initiative underscores the state’s resolve to ensure that elderly persons with disabilities are not left behind in governance and social development.
