Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has described the Eyo Festival as a powerful affirmation of Lagos’ identity, resilience, and unbroken connection to its rich history.

Eko Hot News reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday attended the 2025 Adamu Orisha Play Eyo Festival, describing the event as a celebration that accentuates the richness and diversity of Nigerian culture.

The festival, held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, attracted top dignitaries including Governor Sanwo-Olu, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

Also in attendance were captains of industry, former and serving public office holders, traditional and political leaders, as well as thousands of Nigerians in the diaspora and foreign visitors, reinforcing the festival’s growing global appeal.

President Tinubu noted that the Eyo Festival highlights the immense potential of culture and tradition in driving tourism development and economic growth in Lagos and Nigeria at large.

The President explained that the iconic procession of white-robed Eyo masquerades sends a strong message of cultural pride, unity, and continuity, reflecting the enduring values of the people of Lagos.

He stated that the 2025 edition was held in honour of late distinguished leaders, including Brigadier-General Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson (rtd), Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, Chief Michael Agbolade Otedola, and his mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the Iyaloja General of Nigeria.

According to Tinubu, the Eyo Festival goes beyond celebration, as it honours excellence, service, and exemplary leadership while showcasing the deep cultural beliefs of Lagos and Nigeria.

The colorful procession of different Eyo groups, led by Adamu Orisha, featured traditional attire, prayers, and rites that reaffirmed Lagos’ historical roots and cultural resilience.
