The Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando, has marked a major academic milestone with the successful hosting of its 7th Convocation Ceremony for graduates of the Basic Midwifery Programme.

Eko Hot News reports that the ceremony celebrated the 2022 intake, the final cohort under the Basic Midwifery Programme, who completed three years of intensive academic instruction and clinical training.

The graduates were formally inducted and certified as qualified midwives, ready to contribute to healthcare delivery within Lagos State and beyond.

In her welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. (Mrs.) Ogunmuyiwa Ayodeji, congratulated the graduating students for their perseverance and academic excellence.

She described the convocation as a reflection of the discipline, sacrifice, and resilience demonstrated by the students throughout their training period.

Dr. Ogunmuyiwa urged the new midwives to uphold the core values of compassion, competence, and integrity in their professional practice.

She emphasised that modern healthcare requires not only technical expertise but also empathy, ethical conduct, and a commitment to lifelong learning in a rapidly evolving medical environment.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, a Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Olubunmi Ibidapo-Obe, highlighted emerging trends in global healthcare delivery.

She encouraged the graduates to embrace digital literacy, data-driven decision-making, and advanced clinical communication skills to remain relevant in a technology-driven health sector.

Mrs. Ibidapo-Obe further stressed the importance of continuous professional development, noting that the healthcare industry demands adaptability and a willingness to acquire new knowledge and competencies throughout one’s career.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the LASCON Governing Council, Professor Olaide Edet, described the convocation as the beginning of a new phase rather than the end of academic pursuit.

She encouraged the graduates to aim higher academically and professionally, while cautioning against mediocrity.

Professor Edet expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its consistent support of nursing and midwifery education. She also acknowledged the contributions of the World Health Organization and the Lagos State School of Nursing, Awolowo Road Alumni, for supporting infrastructure development and curriculum enhancement at the College.
