The Steer for Change Mother and Newborn Foundation has delivered free healthcare services and essential support to 100 women and nursing mothers in the Ijedodo area of Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the outreach was organised to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women and new mothers living in underserved communities.
Speaking at the programme, the founder of the NGO, Mrs Kikelomo Adisa, said the initiative was designed to promote safe pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care while reducing maternal and infant mortality.
She explained that beneficiaries received birth kits, baby-care products, mosquito nets to prevent malaria, as well as food items including rice, groundnut oil, clothing, and cereals for babies above six months.
Adisa noted that the foundation also provided health education, blood pressure checks, pregnancy monitoring, and guidance on best practices during and after pregnancy.
She added that limited access to healthcare in many communities informed the foundation’s decision to conduct regular outreaches to support vulnerable women.
The founder disclosed that since its establishment in 2019, the foundation has reached over 6,000 women across 20 communities through various interventions.
She commended donors and partners, particularly Georges Memorial Medical Centre, for their continued support.
Adisa called on government authorities to strengthen healthcare access and training for birth attendants to further reduce maternal and infant deaths.
