The Directorate of Nursing Services at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has successfully hosted its 18th Annual Scientific Conference, with the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.”
Eko Hot News reports that the three-day event, held from December 1 to 3, 2025, brought together nurses, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and key stakeholders for knowledge sharing and professional development.

Activities began with a courtesy visit to hospital management, followed by an awareness walk around the LASUTH premises.
The conference also featured two major lectures, including a wealth-creation session by Dr Mayowa Owolabi of Wealthgate Africa on “Building a Wealth-Generating Mindset as a Nurse.”
A clinical lecture was delivered by Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Ramon Moronkola, on “Nurses’ Contribution to Hypertension Management (Home Monitoring).”

During the courtesy visit, Director of Nursing Services, Mrs Adebola Aina, thanked the hospital leadership for its consistent support of the Nursing Directorate.
Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, welcomed the team and congratulated them on the milestone celebration.
He commended the department for its excellence and noted that LASUTH has sponsored some nurses abroad for advanced training to strengthen the workforce.
Prof. Fabamwo emphasised that nurses remain central to healthcare delivery and stressed the need for ongoing investment in their welfare and training to improve system efficiency.

In her remarks, Mrs Aina highlighted compassion as a core value of nursing and a powerful force that enhances patient care and community trust.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising healthcare under the THEMES Plus Agenda and to the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, for strengthening the state’s health infrastructure.
She also acknowledged the support of Prof. Fabamwo for fostering an enabling environment for nursing excellence.
The conference was officially inaugurated by Prof. Adebowale A. Adekoya, who represented the CMD as Chief Host.
Prof. Adekoya commended the steady growth of the conference and reiterated the essential role nurses play in strengthening the healthcare system.
