Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised Guinness Nigeria Plc for its 75-year legacy of industry leadership, community development, and strong partnership with Lagos and the Nigerian people.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted Guinness Nigeria’s evolution from a small trading outfit in 1950 to a global manufacturing powerhouse with deep social impact nationwide.

He recalled that the company’s first brewery, established in Lagos in 1962, the first outside Ireland and Great Britain, cemented its role in Nigeria’s culture, economy, and daily life.

The governor noted that Guinness Nigeria’s legacy goes beyond beverage production, shaping communities and generations through sustained social initiatives.

He cited the Water of Life Programme, which has provided over 500,000 Nigerians with access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and improved community health.

Sanwo-Olu also commended Plan W, a women-focused empowerment scheme offering financial and entrepreneurial training for sustainable livelihoods.

He further praised the company’s education-driven interventions, including the Guinness Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme, which continues to support promising Nigerian students.
