The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), has reaffirmed mediation as a key instrument for resolving disputes and strengthening community peace across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the Attorney-General made this known at the Ikeja Division of the IBILE Stakeholders’ Meeting organised by the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau. He said Lagos, with over 20 million residents, will naturally experience conflicts, making mediation an essential tool for harmony.

Mr Pedro highlighted the deep roots of mediation in traditional African society, explaining that elders and family heads historically resolved disputes through dialogue, ensuring equitable outcomes and promoting communal stability.
The Permanent Secretary of the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau, Mrs Aderinsola Olanrewaju, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence. She described mediation as a dialogue-driven and solution-focused mechanism that strengthens trust within communities.

Former Director of the Bureau and keynote speaker, Mrs Abiola Oseni, described mediation as a “powerful innovation for peace,” stressing that societal progress thrives where peace is sustained.
The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mr Hameed Oyenuga, encouraged community stakeholders to remain committed partners in expanding access to justice and promoting non-violent resolutions statewide.

The IBILE Stakeholders’ Meeting is part of the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau’s ongoing programmes aimed at strengthening peaceful and dialogue-based community relations.
