The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to enhance food security by distributing modern farming equipment, inputs, and financial support to farmers operating across nine sites under the National Programme for Food Security (NPFS).

Eko Hot News reports that the distribution exercise was held during the 2025 Farmers Field Day/Appreciation Day at the Lagos State Agric Cooperative Hall, Oko-Oba, themed “Transitioning from Simple Tools to Mechanised Equipment.”
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya—represented by Permanent Secretary Mr Emmanuel Audu—said the initiative reflects Lagos’ commitment to modernising food production to meet the needs of over 24 million residents.
She noted that the State must shift from labour-intensive farming to mechanised practices to achieve higher output and food sustainability.

Farmers across all NPFS sites received mini-tractors, power tillers, solar-powered sprayers, fish-smoking kilns, fish feed, poultry feed, deep freezers for artisanal fish processors, and other productivity-enhancing tools.
Beneficiaries were also supported with cash grants to purchase agrochemicals and essential inputs, with the intervention targeted at about 2,000 farmers across Lagos.

Olusanya urged beneficiaries to use the items responsibly, adding that the gesture marks a renewed commitment to sustaining government support for the agricultural sector.
Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Olotu Emmanuel—represented by Committee Secretary Mr Babatunde Olajide—affirmed the Legislature’s readiness to back programmes that improve farmers’ welfare.

Coordinating Director of the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority, Mrs Aderonke Toju-Tubi, explained that NPFS, introduced federally in 2002 and adopted by Lagos in 2011, has expanded from three sites to 10 due to its impact.
She added that the programme aims to transition farmers from manual methods to mechanised systems that boost productivity and income.
