The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to driving inclusive, sustainable and resilient economic development across the state.

The event, held at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja, brought together government officials, business leaders, academics, and development partners to explore strategies for a more dynamic and equitable Lagos economy.

In his keynote address, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, reaffirmed the state’s readiness to pursue data-driven and future-focused policies as Lagos prepares for the 2026 fiscal cycle.

George said the state was not only building back but “building forward” with stronger, smarter and more inclusive economic initiatives.

He highlighted major focus areas, including urban regeneration, the creative economy, and the Omi-Eko Revolution, aimed at transforming Lagos’ waterways into a modern transport system.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Olayinka Ojo, described the roundtable as a strategic platform for evidence-based policymaking and shaping the state’s economic future.

She stressed that sustaining economic resilience amid global uncertainties required deliberate planning, innovation and strong multi-sector partnerships.

Ojo noted that recommendations from the sessions would guide the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, the 2026 Budget and future policy directions.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Blue Economy, Emmanuel Oluwadamilola, presented insights on the Omi Eko Revolution and its impact on Lagos’ transport sector.

He explained that Lagos loses thousands of productive hours to gridlock daily and emphasised the need to maximise the state’s largely unused waterways.

Oluwadamilola said the initiative would introduce electric and hybrid ferries, advancing the Lagos Climate Action Plan while improving safety and access for coastal communities.

He added that the project enjoys strong support from AFD, the European Union and the European Investment Bank.
