LASU VC, Tunji Bello Honoured at UI Awards

Lagos State University (LASU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and her husband, Hon. Tunji Bello, were honoured at the 2025 University of Ibadan Alumni Association (UIAA) Worldwide Honours and Awards held in Abuja yesterday. The ceremony was chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, mni, and attracted prominent leaders from across the nation.

Eko Hot News reports that Professor Olatunji-Bello was awarded the coveted ‘Worthy Ambassador’ recognition for her exceptional leadership, impactful service, and notable contributions to academic excellence and institutional development since becoming LASU Vice-Chancellor in 2021. The award celebrates alumni whose work exemplifies purposeful leadership and national development.

Her husband, Hon. Tunji Bello, also received the ‘Meritorious Service’ Award, acknowledging his distinguished career in public service, including his roles as former Lagos State Commissioner, former Secretary to the State Government, and current CEO and Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). The accolade recognises his dedication to governance transparency, public accountability, and institutional strengthening.

The LASU community congratulated both honourees, praising their contributions to higher education and public service in Nigeria.

“The entire LASU community celebrates Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and Hon. Tunji Bello on their well-deserved awards, recognising their outstanding impact on Nigeria’s academic and public sectors,” the statement read.
