Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos’ strategic role as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, contributing about 30% of the national GDP and serving as a major gateway for global investment and cooperation. He noted that while Nigeria-Russia diplomatic engagement had slowed in recent years, both countries are now working to revive and strengthen longstanding ties.

The Governor expressed Lagos’ readiness to explore several sectors proposed by the Russian delegation. He particularly commended innovative technological and energy solutions showcased during the visit, including digital technologies, solar energy options, and Russia’s floating nuclear power plant model capable of generating 100–200 MW with a lifespan of up to 60 years.

Sanwo-Olu said such unconventional solutions could significantly benefit Lagos, given the state’s limited landmass and large water bodies, making floating solar and related technologies valuable alternatives. He added that the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperative, Trade, and Industry is already in active discussions with Russian agencies, including engagements linked to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

In his remarks, Ambassador Podelyshev affirmed Russia’s readiness to build a vibrant economic relationship with Lagos. He emphasised that MoscowRussia’s political, financial, and industrial hubshares similarities with Lagos in urban challenges such as transport, infrastructure, and service delivery.
