The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Persons Living With HIV (PLHIV), as over 500 beneficiaries have so far received empowerment tools through initiatives facilitated by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA).
Eko Hot News reports that the latest round of support was showcased on Monday during a special Empowerment Programme held at the Lagos State House of Assembly Pavilion, Alausa, as part of activities marking the 2025 World AIDS Day. The programme followed a statewide awareness walk themed “Overcoming Disruptions; Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response.”

The gathering included PLHIV beneficiaries, civil society groups, development partners, medical experts, and community leaders, collectively reinforcing Lagos State’s efforts toward resilience, economic strengthening, and improved quality of life for impacted individuals.
Delivering the keynote message, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Chief of Staff, Mr Kadiri Semiu Oluwasanu, commended Lagos’ efforts in lowering HIV infections. He credited the improvements to robust health systems, regular interventions, and extensive community involvement. Kadiri underlined that an HIV-free Lagos takes community effort, stressing that World AIDS Day provides an opportunity to remember lost lives, support impacted persons, and strive for accessible healthcare for everyone.

Earlier, LSACA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, stressed that empowerment remains central to enabling PLHIV to lead independent and dignified lives. She revealed that the 2025 empowerment packages included sewing machines, deep freezers, ovens, gas cookers, hair dryers, sterilisers, and cash assistance for elderly beneficiaries. She noted that support for PLHIV extends far beyond medical treatment and must include sustainable economic upliftment.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed that no resident will be left behind in its ongoing HIV response and empowerment programmes.
