LASPARK and Ikeja Local Government have renewed their commitment to making Ikeja greener, cleaner, and more sustainable. The announcement came during a courtesy visit by Mrs Adetoun Popoola, General Manager of LASPARK, to Ikeja LG Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, on Wednesday, November 13, 2025.

Eko Hot News reports that the meeting, held at the Ikeja Secretariat, focused on strengthening collaboration between LASPARK and the local government to enhance public spaces, urban renewal, and community-focused green development. Mrs Popoola led the LASPARK delegation and was received by Chairman Dauda alongside key council officials.

In her remarks, Mrs Popoola congratulated Chairman Dauda on his emergence and emphasised LASPARK’s dedication to positioning Ikeja as a model for urban greening in Lagos State. She highlighted the agency’s key mandates, including the maintenance and beautification of parks and gardens, statewide tree planting, and promotion of recreational spaces to improve public wellness.

She disclosed LASPARK’s ambitious plan to plant 25,000 trees across Lagos by July 2026, noting that Ikeja will play a strategic role in achieving this target. The agency aims to plant at least 5,000 trees within the capital city, ensuring a high survival rate through joint monitoring and active community engagement.

Mrs Popoola identified priority locations for green development, including the Ikeja Under-Bridge corridor, community open spaces, and public setbacks. She stressed the need for additional parks despite the presence of Ndubuisi Kanu Park and JJT Park, and voiced concern over the rising rate of indiscriminate tree felling and pruning, particularly in the GRA. She called for improved enforcement of tree management regulations and stronger collaboration between the agency and the council.

Chairman Dauda described the visit as timely and essential for restoring Ikeja’s environmental charm. He revealed that the council has already mapped out key areas for beautification, including the Ikeja Under-Bridge stretch, setbacks from the Secretariat to Simbiat Abiola Road, the LAWMA corridor, and the LASUTH perimeter setback.

He also appealed to LASPARK to extend its annual Christmas decoration project from Allen Roundabout toward Alausa and the Local Government Headquarters. Additionally, he requested support in beautifying school premises and pruning overgrown trees within public institutions. The Chairman reaffirmed the council’s determination to improve environmental hygiene by addressing open defecation and establishing modern public toilets in strategic locations.

Chairman Dauda assured LASPARK of Ikeja LGA’s commitment to collaboration throughout 2026 and beyond, stating, “We are committed to building the Ikeja we fondly remember and handing over a greener, healthier city to the next generation.”

The renewed partnership between LASPARK and Ikeja Local Government underscores Lagos State’s dedication to sustainable urban development. By combining resources, expertise, and community engagement, the initiative aims to transform Ikeja into a model for urban greening, providing aesthetically pleasing, environmentally resilient, and recreational public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
