US President Donald Trump has not ruled out seeking a third term in 2028, saying he would “love to do it” but dismissing the idea of using a VP loophole.
Eko Hot News reports that Donald Trump, speaking to reporters during his Asia trip, called the suggestion of running as vice-president “too cute” and “wouldn’t be right.” He emphasised he has not finalised any plans but noted his poll numbers remain strong.
Donald Trump also highlighted potential Republican successors, naming VP hopeful JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “unstoppable,” while criticising Democrats for lacking strong contenders.
The 22nd Amendment bars presidents from serving a third term, and repealing it would require overwhelming support in Congress and ratification by 38 states—an improbable scenario.
Former adviser Steve Bannon previously claimed that a “plan” exists to secure Donald Trump‘s reelection, but the details remain unclear. Meanwhile, several Democrats, including Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris, are already considering 2028 bids.
