The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has praised President Bola Tinubu for maintaining neutrality during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, describing his stance as a commitment to credible and transparent elections.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said the president’s impartiality “demonstrates his dedication to Nigeria’s democracy by encouraging transparency and refusing to interfere in the electoral process.”

Oladejo added that Tinubu’s decision not to influence the poll reinforced his reputation as a democrat and strengthened public confidence in the country’s electoral system. He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a smooth and transparent election, noting that the process under the new INEC leadership represents a “bold and refreshing new dawn in Nigeria’s democratic experience.”

The APC spokesman also criticized the opposition coalition, saying the Anambra election exposed its disunity and lack of structure. “The result shows that the so-called coalition lacks vision, organisation, and national appeal. A group that cannot win in its own stronghold should stop dreaming of national victory,” Oladejo said.

He added that while the opposition searches for excuses, the APC remains focused on governance and reforms aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. “The Anambra election is a warning to the opposition that the era of emotional blackmail is over,” Oladejo stated.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) the winner of the governorship election with 422,664 votes.

Soludo’s closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the APC, received 99,445 votes, while Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes. Other candidates included John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 8,208 votes, George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) with 10,576 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 1,401 votes.
