The Lagos State Government has commissioned the rehabilitated Road E and newly constructed disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility in Ojota to improve waste evacuation and strengthen waste management infrastructure across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the project, executed through the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving access for waste evacuation trucks, and ensuring faster disposal of municipal waste.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, described the project as a strategic intervention designed to remove operational bottlenecks and improve activities at one of Lagos State’s busiest waste disposal facilities.
He explained that the rehabilitation of Road E became necessary after recent heavy rainfall affected access to sections of the facility, making it difficult for compactor trucks to move freely while transporting waste from different parts of Lagos.
According to Dr. Gbadegesin, the upgraded road and the newly constructed disposal platforms will allow more waste collection trucks to offload refuse simultaneously, reducing waiting time and improving the overall waste evacuation process.
He noted that the infrastructure upgrade would significantly boost LAWMA’s operational capacity while supporting the agency’s ongoing efforts to deliver cleaner and more efficient waste management services across Lagos State.
“This project represents another important milestone in our commitment to building a more efficient and resilient waste management system for Lagos,” Dr. Gbadegesin said.
He added that improving access to the disposal facility would address immediate operational challenges while providing long-term benefits for waste collection and environmental sanitation across the state.
The LAWMA boss stated that the initiative aligns with the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen critical waste management infrastructure through strategic investments and partnerships.
According to him, the state government remains committed to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents through continuous improvements in waste management systems.
Dr. Gbadegesin commended Zoomlion Nigeria Limited for rehabilitating Road E under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, describing the intervention as a practical example of the value of public-private partnerships.
He said the collaboration between LAWMA and Zoomlion has grown beyond corporate social responsibility into a broader technical partnership focused on improving waste management engineering and infrastructure across Lagos.
The partnership, he noted, has contributed to strengthening operational capacity while supporting innovative approaches to waste disposal and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Gbadegesin explained that waste management requires significant financial resources, technical expertise, and continuous investment to meet the needs of a rapidly growing city like Lagos.
