The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has stepped up enforcement against illegal parking across Lagos as part of renewed efforts to improve traffic flow, encourage orderly parking and ensure easier access for all road users.
Eko Hot News reports that the renewed enforcement drive forms part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to promoting a more organised transportation system. The initiative is expected to reduce road obstructions, improve mobility and encourage motorists to comply with existing parking regulations.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed the development while speaking on the agency’s ongoing activities aimed at strengthening parking compliance across the state.
According to her, LASPA’s Monitoring and Enforcement Team recently carried out a targeted operation along Akintoye Road near Ajeromi General Hospital in Apapa, where several vehicles were found parked in restricted areas.
Mrs. Adelabu explained that the exercise focused on motorists who ignored designated “No Parking” zones despite repeated public awareness campaigns and the installation of official road signs along the corridor.
She noted that the Authority had invested considerable time in educating motorists on the importance of proper parking before commencing enforcement. Public sensitisation, she said, remains a key part of LASPA’s strategy for improving compliance across Lagos.
The General Manager stressed that the operation was conducted professionally and peacefully in line with established procedures. She added that the enforcement exercise was carried out without disrupting normal activities in the area.
During the exercise, vehicles found violating parking regulations were attended to by LASPA officials. Where necessary, improperly parked vehicles were towed to restore free movement along the affected road.
Mrs. Adelabu said illegal parking continues to contribute to traffic congestion in many parts of Lagos by reducing available road space and slowing the movement of vehicles.
She explained that ensuring motorists park only in approved locations would significantly improve traffic circulation while enhancing convenience for commuters, emergency services and other road users.
The LASPA boss also disclosed that one of the Authority’s official “No Parking” signs installed along the Akintoye Road corridor was discovered missing during the operation.
She described the removal or destruction of public infrastructure as unacceptable, noting that traffic signs are essential tools for maintaining order and guiding motorists.
According to her, road signs help improve safety, support traffic management and provide important information that allows drivers to make informed decisions while using public roads.
Mrs. Adelabu warned residents and motorists against vandalising or stealing government property, stressing that such actions undermine efforts to improve public infrastructure and transportation services.
She stated that anyone found responsible for damaging or removing government-installed traffic facilities would be dealt with in accordance with the relevant laws.
The General Manager urged motorists to obey all parking regulations by paying close attention to traffic signs and using only designated parking spaces across the state.
She further encouraged road users to cooperate with LASPA officials during routine monitoring and enforcement exercises, adding that voluntary compliance remains the most effective way to achieve lasting improvements.
The Lagos State Parking Authority has continued to expand public awareness campaigns aimed at educating residents about responsible parking practices and the benefits of an organised parking system.
