The six-week tournament provided an exciting platform for students to demonstrate their football abilities while fostering teamwork, discipline, resilience, leadership, and friendship among participating schools.

To encourage excellence and reward outstanding performances, the organisers announced cash prizes for the teams that finished in first, second, and third positions at the end of the competition.

The initiative reflects the schools’ commitment to combining academic excellence with extracurricular development, ensuring that learners receive a balanced education capable of preparing them for future opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director of Bosede Idehen International Academy, Mrs. Idehen Ovabor, described the competition as an important investment in the future of young people.

According to her, the institution operates a blended Nigerian and American curriculum that encourages learners to excel academically while exploring their talents through sports and other creative pursuits.

She explained that education should never be separated from opportunities that help children discover their natural abilities.

“Here at Bosede Idehen International Academy, we believe that while our learners study hard, they should also have the opportunity to play hard. There must always be a balance because education is about developing the total child,” she said.

Mrs. Ovabor stressed that while many students aspire to become doctors, lawyers, engineers and other professionals, others may find fulfilment in sports or different career paths.

She noted that whatever path learners choose, education remains an indispensable foundation for long-term success.

“Not every learner will become a doctor or a lawyer, and that is perfectly acceptable. Some will build successful careers in sports and other professions. However, they must first acquire sound education, obtain relevant qualifications and continue learning because talent alone is not enough. Education shapes character, builds confidence and positively influences every aspect of life.”

The school director also commended members of staff whose dedication and teamwork contributed immensely to the successful organisation of the tournament.

She praised the planning committee for delivering a memorable sporting event and expressed confidence that future editions would attract more schools and become one of the leading grassroots football competitions in Lagos State.

“I sincerely appreciate every member of staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this competition. Their commitment and professionalism made this event possible, and I believe the competition will continue to grow stronger with each edition.”

Parents, teachers and supporters who attended the tournament applauded Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy for creating a platform that allows students to showcase their football talents while learning the values of discipline, teamwork and fair play.

The maiden edition of the Bosede Idehen 5-Aside Football Competition has further strengthened the schools’ reputation as institutions committed to holistic education. Beyond celebrating sporting excellence, the tournament highlighted the importance of balancing academics with extracurricular activities, reinforcing the belief that education and talent development can coexist to produce future leaders and responsible citizens.
