President Bola Tinubu has highlighted the achievements of his administration’s ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s health sector, describing them as one of the most comprehensive transformation efforts undertaken in recent decades.
Eko Hot News reports that the President said the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has implemented wide-ranging initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding access to medical services, and improving public health nationwide.
According to Tinubu, more than six million Nigerians have been enrolled in health insurance since the commencement of the reforms, increasing access to affordable healthcare services.
The President also disclosed that 4,161 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) are currently undergoing revitalisation, with 3,158 projects already completed across the country.
He noted that 14,283 PHCs, representing more than half of Nigeria’s primary healthcare facilities, are now fully functional and providing essential health services to communities.
Tinubu said the administration has also intensified immunisation programmes, with more than 102 million children vaccinated against measles and rubella.
In addition, over 17.1 million girls have received the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as part of efforts to reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
The President revealed that 78,054 frontline healthcare workers have been trained to improve service delivery, while 20,000 health professionals have been recruited into Federal Tertiary Hospitals.
He added that the government has completed 503 health infrastructure projects nationwide to improve healthcare facilities and expand access to quality medical services.
The administration is also developing three world-class cancer centres to strengthen specialised healthcare and improve treatment options for patients across the country.
Tinubu stated that the reforms are designed not only to address current healthcare needs but also to build a resilient and sustainable health system for future generations.
He explained that investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and disease prevention remain central to the Federal Government’s long-term development strategy.
The President encouraged Nigerians to review the Nigeria Health Sector Impact Report, which highlights key milestones recorded under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
According to him, the report reflects the progress made in improving healthcare access, expanding medical infrastructure, and strengthening health institutions nationwide.
Tinubu reaffirmed that a healthier population remains a major pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that quality healthcare is essential to national development and economic growth.
Healthcare experts have welcomed the continued investments in primary healthcare, immunisation, and human capital development as important steps toward improving public health outcomes.
The President expressed confidence that ongoing reforms will continue to transform the health sector while positioning Nigeria as a leading destination for pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare investment.
He reiterated that the administration remains committed to delivering sustainable healthcare reforms that improve the quality of life for Nigerians and ensure stronger medical services for generations to come.
