The Lagos State Parking Authority has reaffirmed its legal mandate as the sole body responsible for managing and regulating all parking activities across Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, made this clarification while addressing recent claims by a local government official regarding control over parking operations.

Adelabu described the alleged communication from a council parking manager as misleading and not valid. She noted that the document lacked proper official identification and did not reflect the legal framework guiding parking in the state.

She emphasised that LASPA remains the only agency empowered by law to oversee parking management. This authority, she said, is backed by legislation from the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The General Manager explained that LASPA operates within a structured framework that includes collaboration with all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas. This approach ensures uniform regulation across the state.

She urged registered car park operators and the public to disregard any unauthorised directives. According to her, such communications do not represent official government policy.

Adelabu also cautioned individuals involved in issuing such notices to desist from actions that could create confusion. She stressed that attempts to mislead operators will not be accepted.

Reiterating LASPA’s role, she noted that the agency was established to streamline parking administration and improve traffic flow. It also aims to deliver efficient, technology-driven services for motorists.

She further clarified that claims suggesting local councils control parking operations are incorrect. Such assertions, she said, contradict existing laws governing the sector.

According to her, all parking-related agreements and operations must be conducted through LASPA. The agency works closely with certified and registered operators under its regulatory system.

Adelabu described the actions of the council official as interference in a system designed to promote order and transparency. She added that proper coordination is essential for effective service delivery.

The agency reiterated its commitment to maintaining a structured and reliable parking system across Lagos. It emphasised the importance of compliance with established guidelines.

LASPA concluded by warning that it may take appropriate legal steps against any individual or group seeking to undermine its authority. The agency reaffirmed its focus on ensuring convenience and efficiency for all road users in the state.
