The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment with the commencement of a study tour for youth ambassadors at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.

Eko Hot News reports that the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, delivered the keynote remarks at the opening ceremony, encouraging participants to embrace the opportunity for learning and leadership development.

The international study tour is sponsored by the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as part of efforts to prepare young people for leadership and public service.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ogunlende expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for supporting programmes that provide young Lagosians with global learning opportunities.

He said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to equipping youths with the knowledge, skills and international exposure needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

According to the commissioner, the study tour offers participants a unique platform to learn from global best practices in governance, leadership, innovation and public policy.

He encouraged the youth ambassadors to maximise every learning opportunity throughout the programme while remaining focused on personal and professional development.

Ogunlende urged the participants to serve as worthy ambassadors of Lagos State by demonstrating excellence, discipline and integrity throughout their stay in Singapore.

He also reminded them that they represent not only themselves but also the people of Lagos and Nigeria on the international stage.

The commissioner expressed confidence that the experience would broaden the participants’ perspectives and strengthen their capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.

He noted that exposure to world-class institutions would inspire the youth ambassadors to develop innovative solutions to challenges facing their communities.

The Lagos State Government has consistently prioritised youth-focused initiatives through education, skills development, entrepreneurship and leadership programmes.

Officials said investing in young people remains one of the key pillars of the state’s long-term development strategy.

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy is internationally recognised for its programmes in public administration, governance and leadership studies.

The institution attracts students, policymakers and professionals from across the world seeking advanced knowledge in public policy and sustainable development.

Participants in the study tour are expected to engage in academic sessions, leadership workshops and interactive discussions with experts.

The programme will also expose them to Singapore’s governance model, innovation ecosystem and public sector management practices.

Government officials believe the experience will help participants develop practical ideas that can contribute to the continued growth of Lagos State.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts to build a new generation of leaders capable of driving sustainable development and economic progress.

Stakeholders have commended the Lagos State Government for investing in programmes that expand educational opportunities beyond Nigeria.

Observers say international study tours help young leaders develop cross-cultural understanding, global networks and valuable leadership experience.

Participants are expected to return with fresh perspectives that can support innovation and community development across Lagos.

The commissioner encouraged the youth ambassadors to remain committed to learning, teamwork and excellence throughout the programme.

He also urged them to uphold the values of responsibility, respect and patriotism while representing Lagos State abroad.

The study tour reinforces the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision of empowering young people through education, international collaboration and leadership development.
