President Donald Trump has announced a one-time $1,776 cash payment for nearly 1.5 million U.S. military service members as part of a special Christmas bonus tagged the “warrior dividend.”
Eko Hot News reports that Trump announced during a prime-time address from the White House on December 17, describing the payment as a tribute to America’s founding year, 1776, and a gesture of appreciation for the armed forces.
The president said the checks are already being processed and will reach eligible service members before Christmas, stressing that the military deserved the support more than any other group.
Trump disclosed that funds for the dividend would come largely from tariff revenues, noting that government earnings from tariffs exceeded earlier projections.

The announcement came amid economic concerns, including rising unemployment and public anxiety over inflation, as Trump defended his administration’s economic policies during the 20-minute national broadcast.
Beyond the dividend, Trump highlighted other military-focused initiatives, including the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defence Authorisation Act, which provides a 4 percent pay raise, funding for new barracks and family housing, and increased childcare support.

He also referenced the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, aimed at helping veterans avoid foreclosure, and education funding under his administration’s broader legislative agenda.
While Trump continues to enjoy strong backing among military personnel and veterans, recent policy decisions, including budget cuts defended by allies in Congress, have drawn criticism from some veterans’ groups.
