Medical Guild Engages Establishments Ministry on Doctors’ Welfare

The Medical Guild has paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training as part of ongoing engagements with the state government on issues affecting medical professionals.

Eko Hot News reports that the visit, which provided a platform for dialogue between the leadership of the Medical Guild and senior officials of the Ministry on welfare, career progression, and service delivery within the state health sector.

Welcoming the delegation, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, commended doctors in Lagos State for their dedication and invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery.

He described medical practitioners as critical stakeholders in the state’s development, particularly within the healthcare value chain, and assured the delegation that the welfare and professional interests of doctors remain a top priority of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Mr. Ayantayo noted that the state government has continued to address several requests and demands of medical doctors, in recognition of their strategic role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of Lagos residents.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, advised the Medical Guild to formally submit its requests and proposals through official channels to ensure proper documentation and timely consideration.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Oluwole Olusanya, appreciated the Ministry’s management for the warm reception and the opportunity to engage directly with government officials.

He highlighted key concerns requiring government attention, including the elongation of doctors’ retirement age from 60 to 65 years, improved effectiveness of promotion and advancement benefits, and delays in salary payments for newly employed medical officers.

Dr. Olusanya stated that addressing these issues would boost doctors’ morale and significantly enhance service delivery across the state’s healthcare system.

The meeting ended with assurances of sustained dialogue and collaboration between the Medical Guild and the Ministry in the interest of strengthening healthcare delivery and professional welfare in Lagos State.
