The Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) has partnered with the University of Lagos to strengthen the capacity of herbal practitioners through specialised training.

Eko Hot News reports that the collaboration involves the African Centre of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science (ACEDHARS), University of Lagos.

The initiative focuses on equipping herbal product sellers with knowledge of quality assurance and regulatory standards in herbal medicine practice.

The training programme, which lasted one week, concluded with a certification ceremony for participants.

It was designed to improve the quality, safety and standardisation of herbal medicines across West and Central Africa.

Participants were trained in key areas including Good Manufacturing Practice, toxicological evaluation and product formulation.

The programme also aims to build a strong foundation for professionals engaged in herbal medicine production and distribution.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Acting Registrar of LSTMB, Hakeem Bello, commended the University of Lagos for its collaboration.

He noted that the training has enhanced the knowledge and professional capacity of the participants.

Bello explained that the course serves as a prerequisite for registration with the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board.

According to him, the initiative is a step towards improving the overall standard of herbal practice in Lagos State.

He added that the knowledge gained during the training would help practitioners meet modern healthcare expectations.

“This one week has made you more grounded, more exposed, and more prepared to take on the challenges ahead,” Bello said.
