The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for employers to file their annual tax returns, granting an additional one-week window for compliance across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the new deadline for filing employers’ annual returns has been moved from January 31 to February 7, following appeals from stakeholders seeking more time to complete accurate submissions.

The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Dr. Ayodele Subair, announced the extension in a statement, explaining that the decision was taken to ease compliance and support employers in meeting statutory obligations without incurring penalties.

Dr. Subair stressed that timely filing of annual returns remains a legal requirement under existing tax laws and urged employers to take advantage of the extension to regularise their tax records.

He reiterated that all annual tax returns must be filed exclusively through the eTax platform, as manual submissions are no longer accepted by the agency.

According to LIRS, the online portal is designed to be secure, efficient, and accessible at all times, enabling employers to file returns conveniently from any location.

The tax authority further advised employers to ensure that the Tax Identification Numbers (Tax IDs) of all employees are correctly captured to avoid errors that could delay processing.

LIRS noted that accurate filing of annual returns plays a critical role in strengthening Lagos State’s revenue base and enhancing the delivery of public services.

The agency also warned that failure to comply with the February 7 deadline may attract statutory penalties in line with tax regulations.

Officials assured taxpayers that support services remain available across LIRS offices and digital channels to assist employers experiencing challenges with the filing process.

The extension is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to promote voluntary tax compliance while maintaining transparency and efficiency in revenue administration.

Employers operating within Lagos State are therefore encouraged to complete their filings promptly and avoid last-minute submissions.

LIRS reaffirmed its commitment to working with businesses and organisations to ensure a seamless and compliant tax environment that supports economic growth in the state.
