A comprehensive cleanup operation has been carried out along the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway corridor following directives from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to restore environmental order across the busy transit route.

Eko Hot News reports that the sanitation exercise covered key sections of the corridor, including the Abule-Ado BRT lanes inward and outward along the Badagry Expressway. The Abule-Ado main carrier inward Mile 2 also received extensive attention during the operation.

The cleanup team conducted bulk waste evacuation at the Agboju Median inward Mile 2. Similar large-scale evacuation and environmental remediation works were executed at the Volk Median inward Mile 2, targeting long-standing waste blackspots.

Activities carried out during the operation included deep mop-up exercises, removal of accumulated refuse, and thorough sanitization of medians and road corridors. Waste materials were carefully bagged and transferred into trucks for proper disposal at approved dump sites.

The exercise significantly transformed previously littered sections of the expressway, improving visibility, safety, and overall environmental conditions for commuters and residents. The visible changes reflect LAWMA’s ongoing commitment to maintaining cleanliness along major highways in Lagos State.

Authorities have urged residents, traders, and road users to sustain the improved conditions by adopting responsible waste disposal practices. The public is also encouraged to patronize assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators to prevent a recurrence of indiscriminate dumping.

The Mile 2–Badagry Expressway is one of Lagos’ busiest transport corridors, serving thousands of commuters daily. Maintaining sanitation standards along the route is critical to public health, traffic safety, and environmental sustainability.

LAWMA

LAWMA reaffirmed its determination to continue periodic enforcement and cleanup operations across strategic locations in the state. Officials emphasized that environmental protection remains a shared responsibility between government agencies and the public.

Residents along the corridor have welcomed the intervention, noting the improved aesthetics and reduction in foul odours previously associated with the affected areas. Many called for sustained monitoring to prevent a return of illegal dumping activities.

The recent operation forms part of broader efforts to ensure cleaner streets and a healthier Lagos for all.
