The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has expanded its operational capacity with the deployment of 10 new compactor trucks to improve waste collection and environmental sanitation across Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, unveiled the new trucks and described the development as a major boost to the agency’s efforts to deliver cleaner and more efficient waste management services.
The compactor trucks were donated by the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), reflecting the state government’s commitment to improving public service through collaboration among government agencies.
Dr. Gbadegesin expressed appreciation to the LSLGA for the donation, noting that the additional vehicles will strengthen LAWMA’s fleet and improve operational efficiency.
According to him, the donation comes at a crucial time as Lagos continues to experience rapid population growth and increasing demand for effective waste management services.
He explained that expanding the agency’s fleet is essential to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.
The LAWMA boss said the new compactors would enable faster waste evacuation and improve response times across communities.
He added that the trucks have been strategically deployed to key operational corridors where waste collection demands are highest.
According to Dr. Gbadegesin, the deployment will complement the agency’s existing fleet and enhance daily waste collection activities across the state.
He noted that efficient waste evacuation remains one of the pillars of the Lagos State Government’s environmental sustainability agenda.
The managing director said the donation also highlights the importance of collaboration among public institutions in addressing environmental challenges.
He stressed that sustainable waste management requires continuous investment in modern equipment, innovative solutions, and strong institutional partnerships.
Dr. Gbadegesin described environmental sustainability as a shared responsibility that requires active participation from government agencies, businesses, and residents.
He commended the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for supporting LAWMA’s mission to maintain a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
According to him, partnerships such as this contribute significantly to improving public services and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
He assured Lagosians that LAWMA remains committed to optimising available resources to deliver efficient waste management services across all parts of the state.
The agency, he said, will continue strengthening waste evacuation operations through strategic planning and better deployment of operational assets.
Dr. Gbadegesin also reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to intensifying environmental enforcement and promoting cleaner surroundings in communities.
He explained that public awareness and community participation remain essential to achieving long-term environmental sustainability.
The agency will continue engaging residents through education and advocacy programmes aimed at encouraging proper waste disposal practices.
LAWMA has consistently introduced initiatives designed to improve waste collection, recycling, and environmental sanitation across Lagos.
The authority believes that investing in modern equipment is critical to meeting the growing needs of one of Africa’s largest cities.
Environmental experts have also highlighted the importance of efficient waste collection systems in protecting public health and preserving urban infrastructure.
Improved waste evacuation reduces pressure on drainage systems and contributes to cleaner streets and neighbourhoods throughout the state.
The LAWMA chief encouraged other government agencies, development partners, and private organisations to collaborate with the authority on future environmental initiatives.
He said strategic investments in waste management infrastructure will further strengthen Lagos’ position as one of Africa’s leading smart and sustainable cities.
According to him, partnerships between public and private institutions remain essential for delivering innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
The Lagos State Government has continued to prioritise environmental sustainability through investments in sanitation infrastructure, cleaner communities, and improved public services.
The deployment of the 10 new compactor trucks represents another milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Lagos.
Residents are expected to benefit from improved waste collection efficiency as LAWMA continues implementing initiatives that promote environmental cleanliness and sustainable urban development across the state.
