The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has held a strategic meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to expand residents’ registration across Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the meeting, held at the Ministry’s Secretariat, brought together the LASRRA General Manager, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa.

Discussions focused on leveraging grassroots structures under the Ministry, including traditional rulers, Community Development Associations (CDAs), chieftaincy institutions, and market boards, to drive wider participation in the residents’ registration exercise.

Mrs. Adebiyi-Abiola stressed that collaboration with the Ministry is critical to achieving comprehensive registration coverage, noting that community and traditional institutions remain trusted gatekeepers within local communities.

She explained that while LASRRA has consistently registered residents across these groups, deepening the partnership would enhance efficiency, access, and public awareness at the grassroots.

According to her, taking registration closer to residents through community-based structures will improve participation and data accuracy.

In her remarks, Mrs. Bolarinwa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting LASRRA’s mandate and assured of full cooperation across its departments and affiliated institutions.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop coordinated action plans, including sensitisation programmes and the deployment of registration points in palaces, community halls, and markets statewide.

Both parties expressed confidence that the collaboration would significantly boost residents’ registration numbers, strengthen population data management, and support effective planning, service delivery, and governance in Lagos State.
