The Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) has taken steps to strengthen food systems preparedness in Lagos State through a strategic review of continuity plans within the agriculture sector.
Eko Hot News reports that LASRO, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food System, reviewed the Ministry’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to enhance resilience and ensure uninterrupted food supply across the state.
The review session, held in Alausa, Ikeja, focused on safeguarding Lagos’ food supply chain and strengthening operational readiness in the face of potential disruptions.
The LASRO team was led by the Chief Resilience Officer, Folayinka Dania, represented by Olayinka Oyekan. The team engaged stakeholders in evaluating the effectiveness of existing strategies and identifying areas for improvement.
Discussions highlighted the Ministry’s critical role in ensuring consistent food distribution across Lagos. Participants emphasised the importance of maintaining efficient operations, especially during emergencies that may affect supply systems.

The Business Continuity Plan serves as a framework to prepare the Ministry for potential disruptions. It is designed to ensure that essential services continue without interruption, even in challenging circumstances.
During the engagement, stakeholders reviewed and refined continuity strategies, recovery procedures, and operational frameworks. These updates are intended to align the plan with current realities and evolving challenges.
Lessons from the COVID-19 period were also examined, providing valuable insights into managing disruptions and maintaining service delivery during periods of uncertainty. Participants discussed ways to apply these lessons to future scenarios.
Olayinka Oyekan reaffirmed LASRO’s commitment to building resilience across key sectors. He noted that strengthening the agriculture sector is essential to protecting residents and ensuring food security.

According to him, ensuring that critical institutions have robust continuity strategies remains a top priority for the state government. He stressed that proactive planning is key to managing unexpected challenges.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to strengthening the food system. Emphasis was placed on collaboration, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
Observers note that Lagos, as a rapidly growing urban centre, requires strong systems to support its food supply chain. Initiatives like the BCP review are seen as important steps toward achieving this goal.

The exercise reflects LASRO’s broader mandate to build resilience across sectors and ensure that institutions can withstand disruptions while maintaining service delivery.
With continuous planning and collaboration, Lagos State aims to strengthen its capacity to manage future challenges and maintain stability in essential services such as food distribution.
