The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has hosted the 2025 Ability Games, bringing together athletes with disabilities to showcase their talents and compete in various sporting events across Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the event held at the Isheri Rehabilitation and Vocational Centre featured competitions such as table tennis, shot put, ludo, chess, and para-lifting, with winners receiving cash prizes.
The games attracted participants from different parts of the state, creating a platform for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to demonstrate their skills, resilience, and determination in a supportive environment.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, described the initiative as more than a sporting event. She noted that it highlights courage, resilience, and the potential in every individual regardless of physical limitations.

She explained that the Ability Games were designed to encourage active participation of persons with disabilities in sports while showcasing their capabilities. The event also aims to create awareness and promote acceptance within communities.
The LASODA boss highlighted the role of sports in fostering unity and breaking social barriers. She noted that disability-focused sporting initiatives in Lagos provide opportunities for participants to compete, excel, and explore potential career paths in sports.
She called on parents, institutions, and society at large to eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities. She stressed that disability does not define or limit an individual’s ability to succeed.

Participants and spectators commended the initiative, noting that it promotes confidence, social inclusion, and community engagement among persons with disabilities.
Observers added that such programmes are essential in building a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully.
The event concluded with the presentation of cash prizes and recognition awards to outstanding athletes, celebrating their achievements and encouraging continued participation in sports.
