The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring zero transmission of infections across all Primary HealthCare Centres (PHCs) in the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the government is strengthening clinical governance and safety standards to protect patients and healthcare workers.
This commitment was restated during the distribution of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) materials to PHCs in Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe.
The Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, led the official handover of the materials.
She explained that the initiative is aimed at eliminating secondary infections within healthcare facilities.
According to her, such infections can occur when proper hygiene and safety measures are not strictly followed.
Dr. Adeleke emphasised that the state’s goal is clear and focused on achieving zero transmission in all PHCs.
She noted that the provision of IPC materials is a proactive step towards safeguarding healthcare environments.
“Our goal is simple: Zero Transmission,” she stated, stressing the importance of consistent safety practices.
She added that the materials will act as a protective system for both patients and healthcare providers.
The Permanent Secretary described the initiative as more than just a supply exercise.
She said it represents a structured effort to ensure that healthcare facilities remain safe spaces for treatment and recovery.
Dr. Adeleke highlighted that the intervention aligns with key pillars of the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
One of the pillars focuses on clinical excellence, ensuring uniform safety standards across all PHCs.
Another pillar supports staff confidence by providing healthcare workers with the tools needed for safe practice.
She explained that this will enable doctors, nurses and community health workers to perform their duties effectively.
The third pillar aims to build community trust in the healthcare system.
According to her, residents should feel secure when accessing services at any PHC in the state.
The distributed materials include personal protective equipment and sterilisation tools for infection control.
These resources are expected to enhance hygiene practices and reduce risks within healthcare facilities.
Dr. Adeleke urged facility managers and medical officers to immediately utilise the materials provided.
She advised against storing the equipment without use, noting that their effectiveness depends on active application.
