The Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria have agreed to set up a technical committee to fast-track the commencement of construction of the proposed Obalende Yellow Bus Park.
Eko Hot News reports that the agreement was reached on Thursday during a meeting at Alausa, following the presentation of the project concept and architectural drawings by MTN officials to relevant state stakeholders.
Speaking after the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, stressed the need for close collaboration among all involved agencies, the local government, and MTN to ensure the project’s objectives are fully realised.
He explained that the proposed Obalende Bus Park must be optimally utilised to accommodate all categories of commercial vehicles, adding that the project would be designed to prevent the displacement of operators currently using the area.
Hon. Giwa disclosed that the technical committee would harmonise all operational, environmental, and infrastructural considerations and submit its report within two weeks.

According to him, another stakeholders’ meeting will be convened shortly after the committee’s report, paving the way for MTN’s mobilisation to the site and commencement of construction.
The project scope includes the main bus park, a second bus terminal, and supporting infrastructure such as a loading bay and park garden to enhance commuter experience and urban aesthetics.
Officials noted that the Obalende Bus Park is expected to improve traffic management, promote orderliness, and support Lagos State’s broader transportation reform agenda.

The construction timeline for the project is estimated at 21 weeks from commencement, subject to regulatory approvals and site readiness.
The meeting also featured inputs on environmental sustainability, drainage considerations, and integration with existing urban infrastructure in the Obalende axis.
In attendance were the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu; Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; Chairman of Obalende/Ikoyi LCDA, Mr. Bola Oladunjoye; General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs Adetoun Popoola; heads of relevant agencies, and top officials of MTN Nigeria.
