The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority and the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs have strengthened collaboration to improve accessibility and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that LASODA General Manager, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, commended LAMATA for its prompt staff response and sustained interventions supporting PWDs during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Ojota.

The visit focused on assessing accessibility compliance. LASODA championed it in partnership with the Festus Fajemilo Foundation and the Down Syndrome Foundation.
Oyetunde-Lawal praised the facilities installed in LAMATA buses and trains to promote inclusion. She, however, proposed establishing Disability Support Offices at major transport hubs to assist PWDs with complaints, directions, and emergency support.

She noted that structured support spaces would strengthen inclusivity and ensure evolving accessibility standards across the transport network. LASODA also offered to translate onboard information into sign language to enhance communication access.

Responding, LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to customer satisfaction and inclusive service delivery for all commuters.
Akinajo disclosed that the Blue Line rail system is fully accessible, with integrated design features that support passengers with varying disabilities. She added that LAMATA buses are equipped with ramps and priority seating.

She urged PWDs to report abuse or discrimination to uniformed officials and pledged continuous collaboration with LASODA. The MD announced that Disability Support Spaces would be introduced immediately, while LASODA would address drivers during quarterly village meetings.

LAMATA will also recognise drivers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to supporting PWDs.
