The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Auditor-General, has commenced a three-day capacity-building workshop for public sector auditors at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja.
Eko Hot News reports that the workshop, themed “Achieving Effective and Efficient Audit for Auditors,” runs from Wednesday, January 14 to Friday, January 16, 2026, and targets auditors serving as supervisors, team leads, and team members across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Declaring the workshop open, the State Auditor-General, Dr Muyiwa John Adetola, described auditors as critical to safeguarding public resources, strengthening internal controls, and supporting good governance in the state.

He urged participants to uphold professionalism and integrity and adopt modern audit practices, stressing that effective auditing is key to preventing financial leakages and improving institutional performance.
According to Dr Adetola, the training is designed to move auditors beyond routine compliance checks to embrace risk-based, performance-oriented, and value-driven audit approaches.
The workshop featured technical sessions led by experienced professionals and subject matter experts drawn from relevant institutions.

The Director-General of the Public Procurement Agency, Mr Onafowote Fatai, delivered a paper highlighting public procurement as a fundamental tool for effective financial management and auditing.
Another session, facilitated by Mr Tom Isibor, focused on enhancing audit performance and efficiency through improved planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions, case studies, and scenario-based exercises aimed at strengthening audit effectiveness and accountability.
The State Auditor-General reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to continuous capacity development, transparency, and strong financial governance across the public sector.
