The Lagos State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, has conducted a comprehensive inspection of the 405-seater Lagos Theatre, Igando and the reconstruction site of Lagos Theatre, Oregun to assess infrastructure, equipment, and operational capacity.

During the inspection tour held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Mrs. Oyekan-Ismaila evaluated the condition of technical equipment, seating facilities, stage infrastructure, and overall operational readiness at Lagos Theatre, Igando. The facility, which serves as a key cultural and creative centre in the Alimosho axis, was assessed to determine areas requiring upgrades and modernization.
Accompanying the Permanent Secretary were the Director of Facility Management, Mr. Abimbola Ogunshote; Deputy Director, Audit Unit, Mrs. Adenike Adebajo; Assistant Director, Tourism, Miss Idowu Amusan; as well as Senior Administration and Human Resource Officers, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Ogunjobi and Miss Yetunde Baruwa. The team conducted a detailed review of both physical infrastructure and backend operational systems to ensure optimal performance standards.
At the Lagos Theatre, Oregun reconstruction site, the Project Architect, Mr. Tunde Joseph, led the delegation on a guided tour of the ongoing construction works. He provided technical updates on structural development, project milestones, and quality control measures being implemented to ensure the facility meets contemporary standards for performing arts venues.
The Lagos Theatre Inspection at Oregun focused heavily on monitoring compliance with approved architectural designs, safety protocols, and projected timelines for completion. The reconstruction project is expected to significantly boost the capacity of the state’s creative ecosystem by providing modern performance spaces for theatre productions, music concerts, film screenings, and other cultural events.
At Lagos Theatre, Igando, the Facility Manager, Mr. Segun Alawode, highlighted the current condition of installed equipment and identified specific areas requiring replacement or upgrade. These include sound systems, lighting rigs, and select technical installations essential for high-quality productions. The inspection team emphasized the need for strategic investments to maintain competitive standards and deliver an improved user experience for performers and audiences alike.
