The Lagos State Government has officially released the Year 2026 Land Use Charge bills, urging property owners across Lagos State to take advantage of the 15 percent early payment discount available within the stipulated payment period.
Eko Hot News reports that the state government also announced that compliance measures for property owners who did not settle their Year 2025 Land Use Charge obligations will begin soon, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen revenue collection and support infrastructure development.
The Land Use Charge remains a key revenue stream for the Lagos State Government, enabling continuous investment in essential infrastructure and services that improve the quality of life for residents. Through this initiative, the government is able to finance projects that enhance transportation, healthcare, education, and security across the state.
Revenue generated from the Land Use Charge has supported the development of major transportation infrastructure, including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line and the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line. These projects have significantly improved urban mobility while helping commuters reduce travel time within the metropolis.

In addition to rail infrastructure, the funds have also contributed to the construction and rehabilitation of important roads and bridges. These projects aim to improve connectivity between communities and reduce traffic congestion in several parts of the state.
The revenue has further supported the expansion and modernization of healthcare facilities, allowing more residents to access quality medical services within their communities. Improvements in health infrastructure continue to strengthen the overall healthcare delivery system across Lagos State.
Security initiatives have also benefited from Land Use Charge contributions. Investments in security infrastructure and operational support help maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors, and businesses operating within the state.

Speaking on the release of the 2026 bills, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Finance, Tajudeen Mahmud Alao, emphasized the importance of compliance among property owners.
According to Alao, the Land Use Charge is more than a statutory obligation. He described it as a civic responsibility that directly contributes to the growth and development of Lagos State.
He noted that every payment supports improvements in road networks, healthcare services, educational facilities, environmental sustainability, and public safety. Alao therefore encouraged property owners to fulfill their obligations promptly and benefit from the early payment discount.

The initiative also aligns with the broader development agenda of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, whose administration continues to prioritise infrastructure expansion and economic growth under its development programmes.
Through sustained policy implementation and strategic investments, the Lagos State Government aims to strengthen its position as a leading commercial and innovation hub in Africa.
Officials explained that consistent payment of the Land Use Charge will help the government maintain and expand critical infrastructure while delivering services that support economic development and improve daily life for residents.
Property owners are therefore encouraged to review their bills and complete payment within the early discount window in order to contribute to the continued transformation of Lagos into a resilient and globally competitive megacity.
