The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance has commenced a statewide monitoring exercise to assess compliance, preparedness, and safety standards as schools resume for the new academic session across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the Director-General of the Lagos OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, disclosed this during an on-the-spot monitoring visit to Ajao Estate Junior Grammar School in Oshodi, Lagos.
Dr. Ogunmuyiwa stated that the exercise is designed to evaluate the readiness of both public and private schools below the tertiary level, with a strong focus on learner safety within school environments.

He explained that the monitoring will span all six education districts in Lagos State and will be carried out by trained evaluators drawn from the OEQA headquarters and its 20 zonal offices.
According to the Director-General, the exercise will also verify whether schools conducted pre-resumption meetings aimed at preparing teachers and non-teaching staff for effective academic delivery.
Dr Ogunmuyiwa noted that ensuring a conducive teaching and learning environment remains a top priority of the Lagos State Government, especially at the start of a new academic session.

He explained that the monitoring exercise is intended to strengthen early-term activities, improve engagement with stakeholders, and enhance overall school performance statewide.
The OEQA boss added that the initiative would support quality teaching delivery, boost learners’ academic capabilities, and ultimately improve learning outcomes across schools.
The monitoring exercise, which commenced on Monday, January 12, 2026, is scheduled to last for 10 days and conclude on Friday, January 23, 2026.

Senior officials of the agency accompanied the Director-General during the monitoring visit, reflecting the importance attached to the exercise.
Among those present were the Coordinating Director of Education District VI, Mrs. Folusade Sofola, alongside directors overseeing Quality Assurance, Monitoring and Investigation, Administration and Human Resources, and Private Education.
Other officials included heads of special programmes and statistics units, all participating in the evaluation process.
Schools visited during the exercise include Ajao Estate Primary School, Ajao Estate Junior Grammar School, and Ajao Estate Senior Grammar School, all located within Education District VI.
The Lagos OEQA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining quality standards, safety, and accountability in schools as the academic session progresses.
