Eko Hot News reports that the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, made this known during a courtesy visit by officials from the Australian High Commission. The meeting took place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The visit centred on a proposal to expand rugby development across Lagos universities and secondary schools. The initiative aims to nurture talent and increase participation in the sport.
Fatodu expressed strong support for the proposal. He noted that promoting mass participation in sports remains a key mandate of the Commission.
He emphasised that sports can serve as a bridge between nations. According to him, rugby has the potential to enhance Nigeria’s global image.
The Director-General stated that the government will support athletes where necessary. This includes providing resources and creating opportunities for growth.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Rugby League Association in advancing the sport. He highlighted its role in creating opportunities for players.

Thompson stated that the partnership would begin with school programmes. These initiatives are expected to commence in Lagos next year.
