The Lagos State Government has continued its drive to empower residents with practical vocational skills by training 100 participants in the production of household chemicals, including liquid soap, disinfectants, balm ointments and other essential home care products.
Eko Hot News reports that the initiative was organised by the Office of Rural Development through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) as part of the Year 2026 Training and Empowerment Programme designed to promote self-reliance and economic growth across the state.
The programme aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda, which prioritises poverty reduction, job creation and the development of a sustainable 21st-century economy through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the training, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbajea, reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to equipping residents with practical skills that will enable them to become financially independent.
According to him, the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu remains focused on creating opportunities that empower citizens to establish businesses, generate income and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.
Dr. Agbaje disclosed that the Governor approved the implementation of the training programme across the five divisions of Lagos State to ensure that residents in different communities benefit from the initiative. He noted that the latest edition of the programme was held at the Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat.
He explained that the skills acquisition programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce unemployment, encourage entrepreneurship and improve the standard of living of Lagos residents.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for sustaining investments in empowerment programmes aimed at strengthening the state’s economy.
She urged participants to make the most of the opportunity by commercialising the skills acquired during the training, noting that producing household chemicals for sale could become a reliable source of income for individuals and families.
Mrs. Bolarinwa added that beyond improving personal livelihoods, successful participants would also contribute to the economic development of Lagos State through entrepreneurship and small business creation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), Mr. Balogun Musibau, expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritising initiatives that promote economic empowerment and improve the welfare of residents.
He encouraged participants to pay close attention to the practical sessions and utilise the knowledge gained to establish sustainable businesses after the training.
The programme was facilitated by Dura Complete Natural Skincare, which provided hands-on instruction on the production of various household chemical products, equipping participants with practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills.
A total of 100 residents benefited from the exercise, gaining the expertise needed to produce household items such as liquid soap, disinfectants, balm ointments and other related products that have strong market demand.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aishat Adekanmbi and Abdulrahman Aisha commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for providing residents with opportunities to acquire income-generating skills.
They described the training as life-changing, noting that it exposed participants to multiple streams of income and equipped them with the knowledge needed to become self-employed and financially independent.
The beneficiaries expressed optimism that the programme would help many Lagos residents create wealth, establish successful businesses and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
The household chemicals training is one of several empowerment initiatives being implemented by the Lagos State Government to promote entrepreneurship, reduce poverty and strengthen economic resilience among residents across the five divisions of the state.
