Lagos State Government has commenced its 2026 promotion exercise for public servants, introducing a new evaluation system for senior officers.
Eko Hot News reports that the exercise covers officers on Grade Levels 01–05 in the mainstream civil service and Grade Levels 01–16 in parastatal organisations.
It is designed to ensure fairness and improve career progression processes.
The programme includes the Revised Structured Training Programme for junior officers.
The initiative reflects ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the civil service.
It also features the Structured Evaluation Assessment Programme for senior officers in parastatal organisations.
The newly introduced assessment includes written examinations and computer-based tests. It represents the first formal evaluation process for officers on Grade Levels 12–16 seeking promotion.
The initiative is focused on promoting competence, capacity development, and performance.

The exercise is being held at designated centres across the state. These include the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, and the Women Development Centre, Agege.
A total of 388 officers are participating in the senior assessment programme.
In addition, 4,870 officers are undergoing structured training as part of the promotion process.
Afolabi Ayantayo monitored the exercise and commended the orderly conduct. He encouraged participants to approach the process with dedication and professionalism.
He noted that the government is committed to building a smart and responsive workforce. According to him, the new assessment will ensure promotions reflect knowledge and skills.
Olubusola Abidakun also expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the exercise. She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to reforms that enhance productivity.
The promotion exercise will run through the week and conclude next week. It includes training sessions and evaluations to prepare officers for higher responsibilities.
The initiative highlights Lagos State’s focus on improving public service delivery. It also reinforces efforts to build a professional and efficient civil service system.
