The Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) has hosted a two-day retreat for Medical Doctors from secondary healthcare facilities, with a strong focus on collaboration, leadership, and improved service delivery across the health system.
Eko Hot News reports that the retreat, held at The Zone along the Gbagada–Oworonshoki Expressway, brought together about 100 mid-level doctors on Grade Levels 13 to 15 from Lagos State General Hospitals and the Health Service Commission.
The programme was designed to address the growing complexity of healthcare delivery and the need for doctors to work across departments rather than in isolation to achieve better patient outcomes.
Delivering one of the opening lectures, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Dayo Lajide, spoke on “One Health System, One Goal,” emphasising stronger collaboration as a foundation for efficient and patient-centred care.

Other resource persons included Dr Jimi Sodipo of LASUTH, who discussed smarter clinical coordination, and Dr Deolu Arogundade of the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre, who highlighted the importance of streamlined referral pathways

Additional presentations focused on cross-departmental prescribing competence, redefining the role of mid-level doctors, and improving inter-hospital cooperation to enhance service delivery across the state.
In her opening address, the Permanent Secretary, HSC, Dr Cecilia Abimbola Mabogunje, stressed that modern healthcare requires teamwork and synergy among professionals at all levels of care.

She noted that integrated and multidisciplinary care is no longer optional but essential for continuity of care and improved health outcomes in Lagos State.

The Director of Medical Services, HSC, Dr Olawale Adegbite, urged participants to remain passionate and resilient, assuring them of the Commission’s continued support in addressing professional challenges.

A panel discussion featuring senior health officials and medical directors examined issues such as power supply, infrastructure, staff welfare, and strategies for improved hospital performance.
The retreat concluded with a renewed commitment by participants to embrace teamwork, leadership, and patient-focused service delivery across Lagos State healthcare facilities.
