The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026 as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr.
Eko Hot News reports that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, announced the declaration on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The government extended warm greetings and congratulations to Muslims for successfully completing the holy month of fasting.

The announcement comes as Muslims across the country prepare to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
The declaration recognises the religious importance of the festival and allows citizens to observe the celebrations.
The Minister urged Nigerians to uphold the virtues of Ramadan, including peace, love, generosity, tolerance, and sacrifice, while praying for national unity, peace, and prosperity.

He also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and to extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, promoting social cohesion during the festive period.
The Eid-el-Fitr public holiday in Nigeria 2026 provides an opportunity for families, communities, and organisations to participate in celebrations and reflect on the spiritual and cultural significance of the occasion.
