Lagos State Education District VI has hosted its 2026 annual Ramadan lecture aimed at promoting moral values, unity and peaceful coexistence within the education community.
Eko Hot News reports that the lecture, themed “Ramadan: Shaping Characters and Building a Harmonious Society,” brought together education stakeholders, administrators and members of the Muslim community to reflect on the spiritual and social importance of the holy month.
In her welcome address, the Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, highlighted the significance of this year’s Ramadan period and its rare alignment with the Christian Lenten season.
She described the moment as a unique opportunity for people of different faiths to strengthen values of unity, forgiveness and compassion across society.
According to Yusuff, Ramadan provides a period of reflection that encourages individuals to look beyond personal interests and conflicts while focusing on building peaceful relationships within communities.

She explained that the observance of fasting during Ramadan promotes discipline, patience and empathy, qualities that are essential for strengthening harmony in schools and the wider society.
Yusuff also encouraged participants to embrace the lessons of Ramadan and apply them in their daily interactions to foster dialogue, understanding and mutual respect among citizens.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Sa’ed Ahmad, an Imam at the Lagos State Secretariat Community Central Mosque, who spoke on the topic “Ramadan: Catalyst for Self-Development.”
During his presentation, Imam Ahmad described fasting as a deeply personal act of worship that strengthens the relationship between a believer and Allah.

He explained that the discipline developed through fasting helps individuals cultivate patience, tolerance and humility while encouraging obedience to spiritual values.
The cleric noted that Ramadan offers an opportunity for personal transformation by guiding individuals toward moral growth and responsible conduct.
According to him, the teachings of Ramadan encourage believers to develop positive character traits that benefit both individuals and society as a whole.
He also stressed that the lessons of Ramadan extend beyond the fasting period and should influence how people treat one another throughout the year.

Participants at the event were encouraged to practice forgiveness, promote unity and support initiatives that strengthen peaceful coexistence within their communities.
The annual Ramadan lecture organised by Lagos State Education District VI forms part of efforts to promote moral development and encourage values-based leadership within the education sector.
Education officials noted that such gatherings provide an avenue for reflection, dialogue and spiritual enrichment among teachers, administrators and community members.
The event concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the insights shared during the lecture and reaffirming their commitment to the values of discipline, unity and compassion.

Stakeholders also emphasised the importance of sustaining initiatives that promote moral guidance and character development within schools across Lagos State.
Observers at the event noted that the message of Ramadan remains relevant in strengthening social harmony and encouraging responsible citizenship.
They added that values such as patience, empathy and forgiveness are essential in building stronger communities and creating a more supportive learning environment.
